How to clean the dishwasher filter

You need to regularly clean the dishwasher filter to ensure that your dishwasher functions optimally. It’s a good idea to wear gloves for this one, as there could be heavy clogs and sharp edges to handle, so you want to be able to protect yourself.

Typically, you want to clean the dishwasher filter or at least check it monthly. Some newer models come with charcoal filters where you only need to clean the dishwasher filter twice a year.

Find the filter

Your first step in starting this type of house cleaning or the more often neglected breakroom in an office cleaning is to find the filter. It’s typically located at the bottom of the dishwasher, however, follow your instructions manual to find the exact location. The shape will either be a box, or a basket shape.

Clean The Dishwasher Filter Once You Remove It

Don’t just forcefully pull it out, but rather gently remove the filter and any attachments it may have. Your first general cleaning step is to rinse the filter with water to remove visible items.

From there, you can do a more thorough deep cleaning of the filter. If it’s extremely dirty, then place it in warm water and vinegar solution to soak in for around 30 minutes. It can also be dish soap or other mild cleaners combined with warm water.

After properly soaking everything, you should have a clean filter that you want to thoroughly rinse several times. Then you can easily dry the filter with clean paper towels. Don’t use a towel or other linen as they may not be as clean as you think.

Reinstall the filter

With your new clean filter, all that’s left is reinstalling it as per the dishwasher instructions and running a cleaning cycle at the hottest water setting.

Of course, our professional and commercial cleaning company, Coachella Maids, can do all of this. We’d be happy to be your maid’s service and handle any general cleaning for your house cleaning or office cleaning needs.
